Crofts are small plots of land in agricultural areas, with rights to common grazing, found in the Scottish Highlands and islands. Crofting is an integral part of preserving the land and economy of the Shetland Isles, and Shetland sheep are a hardy small breed of sheep that live in these isles' rugged climates and feed on wild heather and seaweed. The wool for this yarn comes from the makers of Jamieson & Smith yarns who act as stewards of the Shetland wool industry, supporting over 700 farmers and crofters on Shetland Isle.

The Croft celebrates this rich farming tradition in a lovely Aran weight yarn made with 100% Shetland wool from the Shetland Isles in Scotland. It's a toothy yet smooth non-superwash yarn that blooms and softens with every wash - the perfect yarn for traditional colorwork sweaters, warm winter accessories, sturdy heirloom items, and fun felting projects!

We have a fun free slouchy hat pattern for this yarn available on our website as well!
